Event Description:
Being a manager can require a new set of skills. The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce Manager's Boot Camp is aimed at emerging leaders who have been given the opportunity to manager others. This series builds on the current skills attendees have and provides a survival kit of essential management skills.
The six-week pilot program will take place every Thursday from 2-5 p.m. from March 3 through April 7th and cover the following topics:
Session 1: Role of the Manager
• The Difference Between Management & Leadership
• Managers Role in Performance Management
• Setting and Achieving Smart Goals
Session 2: Providing Performance Feedback and Coaching
• Providing Feedback to Reinforce Positive Behavior and Redirect Negative Behavior
• Conducting the Coaching Discussion
Session 3: Communicating and Leading Different Behavior Styles
• Understanding your Communication Style through the DiSC Assessment
• Identifying Communication Styles of Those You Lead
• Flexing Your Communication Style to Maximize Leadership Effectiveness
Session 4: Improving Personal Productivity
• Workflow Process Techniques
• Maximizing Time Utilization as Leader
• Effectively Delegation Responsibility
Session 5: Life is a Series of Presentations
• Presentation Skills for Leadership Situations
• Effectively Group Presentations
• Dealing with Difficult Audiences
Session 6: Inspiring and Engaging Today’s Workforce
• Effective Strategies for Instilling Employee Passion
• Creating a Collaborative Culture
• Making Employees Feel Important
