Event Description:
KEY in Des Moines stands for Keeping Educated Youth in Des Moines.  It is a program connecting employers with area colleges and universities for workforce attraction.  Every other month the group hosts free educational sessions.  KEY in Des Moines is a division of the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce.

March's KEY meeting features the topic:
State Funding Available for Registered Apprenticeship Programs
An overview of the two programs available for Registered Apprenticeship programs in the state of Iowa that help support the cost of conducting and maintaining a Registered Apprenticeship program.
 
Presenters:
Jill Lippincott, Project Manager, Iowa Economic Development Authority
Jill Lippincott has been the project manager for Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Registered Apprenticeship funding programs since 2016. In this role, Jill manages the annual application and distribution of funds to qualified Iowa Registered Apprenticeship programs, promotes Registered Apprenticeship throughout the state and helps coordinate statewide activities for National Apprenticeship Week each year. Jill also represents IEDA on the Iowa Jobs for America's Graduations (iJAG) board of directors and the state's Work-Based Learning Clearinghouse Advisory Committee to support the growth of work-based learning experiences to prepare Iowa’s workforce for the future. Additionally, Jill is also the project manager for the state’s Targeted Small Business program which helps business owners that are women, minorities, individuals with disabilities or veterans with service-connected disabilities through education, procurement and networking opportunities. Prior to working for the state of Iowa, Jill has worked with non-profits and small businesses in Iowa, Colorado and Nebraska to lead strategic planning, business development, and quality improvement projects. Jill holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado-Denver.

Greer Sisson, State Director, US Department of Labor/Office of Apprenticeship
Greer L. Sisson serves as the State Director for the USDOL/Office of Apprenticeship (OA).  As State Director, she administers and oversees the Registered Apprenticeship system in Iowa, ensuring Registered Apprenticeship exemplifies high standards, instructional rigor and quality training in a variety of traditional and non-traditional apprenticeship occupations throughout the state. Under her leadership, the development of new apprenticeship programs and technical assistance to existing and potential sponsors has resulted in substantial growth in Registered Apprenticeship in Iowa. 
 
State Director Sisson and her staff develop “Standards of Apprenticeship” and provide technical assistance to potential and existing employers.  She and her staff ensure the safety and welfare of apprentices and issue nationally recognized and portable Certificates of Completion to apprentices.
 
State Director Sisson also works closely with State and Local officials and groups representing business, labor,  education and government, as well as industry associations, faith and community based organizations to promote Apprenticeship expansion and equal opportunity for underrepresented communities in the skilled workforce. State Director Sisson serves as an ex-officio member on the Iowa Workforce State Board and serves on numerous teams and committees throughout the state and at the Federal level.  She is a proud Military Veteran, having retired after 20 years of service in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller and the Chief of Air Traffic Control Training and Standardization.
