Please join the members of Greater Des Moines Committee on Foreign Relations on March 21st at Wakonda Club. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Ian Easton of the Project 2049 Institute. We are excited to have him join us in Des Moines! The title of Mr. Easton’s presentation is “If Taiwan Falls: Future Scenarios and Implications for the United States “.
Doors will open at 6pm for a reception and Happy Hour with the speaker. Mr. Garrett will speak at 6:30pm. There will be an opportunity for Q&A before wrapping up at 7:30pm.
Cost to attend is $25 per person, and includes an hors d’oeuvres buffet. Drinks are not included, but a cash bar is available.

About the speaker:
Mr. Easton is a Senior Director at the 2049 Project Institute and author of “The Final Struggle: Inside China’s Global Strategy” and “The Chinese Invasion Threat: Taiwan’s Defense and American Strategy in Asia”. He previously served as a visiting fellow at the Japan Institute for International Affairs in Tokyo, a China Analyst at the Center for Naval Analyses in Virginia, and a researcher with the Asia Bureau of Defense News.
Ian holds an MA in China Studies from National Chengchi University in Taiwan and a BA In International Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He studied Chinese at Fudan University in Shanghai and National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.
The Project 2049 Institute is a non-profit research organization focused on promoting American values and security interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The group specializes in open-source research using Chinese language sources to inform policy debate and advance public education. The core mission is to create and disseminate knowledge that makes the region more peaceful and prosperous.
Located in Arlington, VA, the Institute was founded by the Honorable Randall Schriver and Lt. Colonel Mark Stokes (USAF). It is a 501(c)3 organization, independent and non-partisan, whose research is focused on bolstering human rights and national security.
