Kirk Mickelsen | KRM Development
Kirk Mickelsen, a Chicago native, came to Des Moines in 2001. Although Mickelsen has had other jobs, it was always his passion to make home building his career. Drawing upon his remodeling skills and other new construction experience, he created KRM Development in 2004. After years of building custom homes, Mickelsen saw a need and opportunity in the Des Moines market for more practical and affordable homes and started Tanzanite Homes in 2012.
Mickelsen graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana and is currently a member of the Entrepreneur Organization, serving as membership chair of the Iowa chapter. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines, finishing up his time on the leadership ladder this year serving as the Immediate Past President.

Chris Whalen | Hyper Energy Bar
Chris is the Founder and CEO of Hyper Energy Bar, a growing chain with seven locations across Iowa. He is also the President of Heart of America Group, an organization that develops and manages hotels, restaurants, and real estate projects throughout the Midwest. Chris resides in West Des Moines with his wife and two children and is an avid gym rat and snowboarder.

Brandon Hart | HartSmart Products
Brandon Hart is the founder and owner of HartSmart Products, an eco-friendly 3D printing shop in Iowa. He is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Biology. Prior to starting is current 3D printing business, Brandon spent 20 years in the cellular and Internet of Things (IoT) industry working for companies such as Verizon Wireless and NimbeLink where he established himself as a subject matter expert on the topic of integrating cellular connectivity into custom electronic devices. His hobby at the time was building microcontroller projects which required specifically designed brackets, enclosures, and fixtures, leading him to explore 3D printing. But then 3D printing quickly took over his life.
Today Brandon is the CEO of HartSmart Products, a multi-faceted 3D printing company located in Urbandale, Iowa. HartSmart Products operates a physical 3D printing retail store, online store, 3D printing services, and even manufactures large format industrial 3D printers.
Julie Burtnette | Des Moines Children's Museum
An Illinois native with a deep appreciation for Des Moines, Julie has a diverse background that includes lifeguarding, retail, food service, and even pizza making. With a passion for education, she spent 10 years teaching language arts to students in grades 6-12 and three years as the librarian at Cowles Montessori. Holding endorsements in both math and library science, Julie is a lifelong learner. Alongside her husband, Brad, she is the proud parent of four daughters, ages 8, 10, 16, and 17. As one of the co-founders of the Des Moines Children’s Museum, Julie is honored to now serve as its Executive Director.
Drew Harden | Blue Compass
CEO and founder of Blue Compass, a Midwest marketing agency powerhouse, Drew has built a nationally recognized company renowned for its exceptional culture. His insights have been featured in publications like USA Today, and he serves clients like Spalding Sports Equipment, NAPA Auto Parts, and the NFL. Drew is a frequent keynote speaker at conferences across the country, inspiring and equipping leaders to create workplaces where employees flourish.
Alicia Jaime | International Veterinary Supplies
Alicia Jaime, president of International Veterinary Supplies (IVS), is a passionate entrepreneur who turned her CPA background and 30+ years of industry experience into a thriving global business. Originally from Argentina, she and her husband, Dr. Jose Samaniego, immigrated to Iowa 23 years ago, embracing the American Dream by launching IVS after their former employer closed its operations. Today, IVS distributes American-made veterinary products worldwide, with exports making up 70% of sales, and is now expanding into domestic markets. Recognized as the 2018 SBA Iowa Exporter of the Year, Alicia credits IVS' success to strong banking partnerships, SBA and IEDA support, and strategic networking. She actively mentors other entrepreneurs through SBA Women’s Business Center and NAWBO and has leveraged state-level programs to fuel IVS' growth. With a focus on job creation and community impact, Alicia and Jose take pride in building a business that supports hardworking professionals, all while cherishing their family and new life in Iowa.
