First Fridays
Event Description:
The Greater Des Moines partnership is excited to team up with the Iowa Women's Business Center to bring you First Fridays! The goal of First Fridays is for the aspiring entrepreneurs and the people of Des Moines to hear from business owners and entrepreneurs who have helped shape the communities in which we live. The speakers are makers, store owners, movers and shakers, creators of regional or national brands, and all have stories that are uniquely their own.
The event features Tricia Rivas, Founder and Owner of Trixie’s Salon and Dream Catchers Foundation. Rivas, owner of Trixie’s Salon, has always had a passion for giving back to the community. Rivas used her skills as a licensed beauty professional to donate salon services to Hospice of Central Iowa, the women’s shelter in Des Moines, and to Des Moines veterans. Overseeing more than 15 stylists at Trixie’s Salon, Rivas encouraged her employees to donate their talents to organizations in DSM. She decided to turn their giving back as a team into something much more by starting the Dream Catchers Foundation. Dream Catchers is the only nonprofit of its kind in DSM that provides salon services for chronically and terminally ill men, women and children as well as their caregivers.
