Project IOWA's YouthWorks: New Work-based Learning Opportunities for DSM Students
Since 2011, Project IOWA has opened doors to discover self-worth, a career that offers a livable wage, and stability for individuals and/or their families. Now this local nonprofit has partnered with DMPS to provide paid internships for underserved students in a new program called YouthWorks. Come learn more about the program and how you can get involved!
Chris Noth
YouthWorks Program Manager
Des Moines native Chris Noth has worked with youth as a teacher, residential care worker, and nonprofit professional, mostly in Chicago. After moving back to Des Moines in 2019, Noth noticed a lack of professional internship opportunities for students and so he approached Project IOWA with a proposal to expand the nonprofit's mission to serve teens-- and YouthWorks was born. The program is based on a model that has shown success in Chicago and other cities in preparing underserved students for postsecondary success and pathways to rewarding careers.
