Speaker: Alan Feirer Topic: Communication for Connection Summary: Communication is the one skill we use every day, in every environment, and in every situation. We communicate with our spouses, our children, our neighbors, our colleagues, our subordinates, and our bosses. We communicate with those we serve and those who serve us. We communicate at work, at play, and at home. Communication is what we do. Because of this, it’s the one skill leaders must master and habitually improve above all else. In this session, we will identify and overcome three common obstacles to effective communication. Once we are aware of them, we can take constructive steps to overcome them. These obstacles are maturity in the moment, personality styles and trait differences, and the tendency to be vague and make attitude assumptions. Communicate for connection, not control. Learn how to communicate in ways that build relationships, improve staff retention, and build engagement. |

At the beginning of the program, we’ll take care of some official Chamber business where we’ll have the passing of the gavel from the current Board Chair, Pat Pithan, to the 2020 Board Chair, Michele Reeves. We’ll also recognize the contributions of the board members going off the board at the end of 2019 and introduce the new board members for 2020. | ||
