This month's Central Iowa Business Academy is a Small Business Management session. The Small Business Management track of our series focuses on topics relevant to those who own their own business or hold a position within upper management. The topics presented will help the every day manager or owner become a better leader as well as teach the things that no one tells you, like important tax info, best social media practices, or succession planning. 
 

The November session is a panel with legal and tax professionals, joining us will be:

John Goodhue Goodhue, Coleman & Owens, P.C. John is a U.S. registered patent attorney with extensive experience in intellectual property.  He received a degree in computer engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and continued his studies in the graduate school at Iowa State University. Prior to law school John was a principal in two different start-ups.  John received his law degree from Drake University Law School after which he worked at a Des Moines intellectual property boutique firm for almost 15 years.  John is admitted in Iowa and in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.	Emma Brock EideBailly Emma Brock is a Senior Tax Manager with Eide Bailly, LLP’s Des Moines office. Originally from Northwest Iowa, Emma received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. She is licensed as a CPA in Iowa and is currently working towards her master’s in taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Emma provides tax and consultation services to a wide variety of industries with a focus in manufacturing and distribution, agriculture-based business, and closely held passthrough entities. She enjoys helping her clients navigate complex tax issues and providing a genuine client experience. Emma spends her free time with her husband, two-year old son, and two rescue dogs. Her personal hobbies include cooking and golf, but she also enjoys a good book during quieter moments.	John Bouslog Simpson, Jensen, Abels, Fischer & Bouslog P.C. John M. Bouslog is a shareholder of Simpson, Jensen, Abels, Fischer & Bouslog, P.C. As a member of the firm's corporate practice group, John brings more than 25 years of experience to clients engaged in all phases of corporate transactions, locally and nationally.  Drawing on his well-hones skills as a strategic negotiator and business counselor, John helps clients negotiate and close on purchase, sale or merger of organizations, as well as a wide variety of transactions for his many corporate clients.  John served for a number of years as a general counsel for a Des Moines-based bank as well as a Des Moines-based insurance company, for which he negotiated and closed a merger between two life insurance companies. John also practices in the regulatory compliance area in the banking and insurance industries. John represents a number of lenders in loan work out, foreclosure and dee in lieu of foreclosure transactions.
