Event Description:

Data centers have been part of Greater Des Moines for decades and play an important role in supporting the technology we use every day.

Join us for an educational conversation about the infrastructure behind our digital world. How does a data center operate and why do they matter to our daily lives and economy? Panelists will explain the different types of data centers, why they are now part of our world’s infrastructure, the technology that makes them work, utility requirements, the planning and construction of a data center and how they fit into our communities.

This event is the first in a series of conversations about digital infrastructure and the role data centers play in Greater Des Moines. Future sessions will take a closer look at electricity and water use, community impacts such as lighting, noise and traffic, workforce and community benefits.

  • Tom Hadden, City of West Des Moines
