Viva las veggies! Sunday, June 12, 1:30-2:30 pm Forest Park Museum and Arboretum, 14581 K Avenue, Perry Eating more vegetables is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health. Vegetables are low-calorie, high in fiber, and rich in vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. They can help you reduce your risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. This session will show you how to eat more veggies and enjoy doing it! Participants will sample a “Whole Meal” salad and receive their own “Eat Your Colors” vegetable guide and their choice of dozens of low-cost delicious recipes for vegetable dishes and salad dressing. Perfect for gardeners who are looking for more creative ways to prepare their garden produce or for parents who are looking for ways to encourage their children to eat more veggies. The “Viva Las Veggies” presentation will be given by registered dietitian Mary Krisco, the ISU Extension Human Sciences Specialist in Nutrition and Wellness who serves Dallas County. After the presentation, you are invited to hike around the beautiful arboretum grounds. $3 per household. To register, call 515-465-3577 Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.
