YOUR MENTORS

Tricia Rivas, Owner of Trixies Salon
Cheerleader & Mentor for Small Businesses
Being a hairdresser was a dream come true for me. What I didn’t imagine was all of the opportunities that this amazing career would open for me. Since 1997 I’ve been listening to and cheering on my guests to have the most amazing lives. What I quickly learned was they were listening to me and taking my advice. These relationships gave me the courage to become a voice in my community for small businesses and non-profits. I found myself meeting monthly with new and seasoned small business owners to bounce ideas off of each other, sharing tools and programs, such as Qnity, that have been successful for us at Trixies, laughing and crying about our trials/tribulations, and most importantly, being their biggest cheerleader.

Lu Spaine, Owner of Zumi Collections, LLC
Lu is a native of Des Moines. She graduated from Tech High School with a major in computer programming and went on to earn a Master’s in Public Administration from Drake University.
Zumi’s mission is to help artisans and crafts people in developing countries focusing on Africa Asia, and South America through the sale of Fair Trade products. The Zumi clothing line is all produced by women and/or family owned businesses. Her community service has included being a founding member and first board chair of the African American Business Association.
She currently serves on the boards of Gateway Dance Theatre, Iowa CORE, and is VP of the Des Moines West Side Chamber.  Her work has also included many informal mentoring relationships and she was our West Side mentor at the 2019 Regional Women's Mentoring Event sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. She ultimately attributes her success to her personal relationship with God.  “Where God Guides – God Provides”

Wendi Fredregill, Owner of Empowered Bridge Mindset Coaching
Mentoring women is important to me because I have two sisters and three daughters. My female friends are so integral to my support system, there is so much power in women supporting each other. I never look at other women as my competition- I always want to lift them up and encourage them. I work with women to get from where they are to where they dream to be. I help them tap into their internal wisdom and strength so they can shine their light in the world around them.
