Event Description:
As president and founder of the Harwood Institute, Rich Harwood is dedicated to transforming our public and political lives by supporting individuals, organizations and communities in their quest to create change. Harwood will discuss concrete ways for Greater Des Moines (DSM) to build community and overcome challenges to inspire positive, lasting change.
Harwood's presentation is a part of the Capital Crossroads Regional Vision Plan's midpoint review, a time to assess what we have already accomplished together and chart a path for the remainder of the 2.0 plan. Harwood’s trip is a follow-up to a summit hosted this summer by the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation where nearly 75 civic leaders met to discuss how to inspire hope in ourselves to bring civic change. His December follow-up visit has a more outward focus.
“When I visited Iowa earlier this year, I met leaders who are committed to creating positive change in their communities,” Harwood said. “The midpoint review at Capital Crossroads 2.0 is a great opportunity to build on the progress that’s already happening. I believe that we can — we must — bring together the resources of our communities in ways that enable us to solve problems and harness people’s yearning for genuine engagement. Then we can make needed progress and restore our belief that we can get things done, together.”
