Workshop Dates:
Thursday, March 29:
Start Where You Are: How Little Changes Can Have a Big Impact on Your Career, presented by Chrystal Stanley, PhD, Director of Professional & Career Development Services, Drake University

  • For many of us, work is a requirement, until we discover the opportunity that allows us to follow our passion. We’ve all read advice on how to be more efficient and harder working in the office. But ultimately, our happiness is just as important as the documents we draft and the spreadsheets we email out. So, how do we effectively walk the line between being professionally productive and personally happy, and how might this impact our career? This session just might have the answers.

Thursday, June 28: Emotional Intelligence presented by Marilyn Jerome, M.A., M.S. Higher Ed. Instructor and MAT-Iowa Coordinator, Kaplan University

  • When you think of what makes a person "intelligent", what comes to mind? Many equate intelligence with book smarts, a specific skill set, or one's ability to think critically/analytically. This presentation will expand on those concepts and reflect on the concept of "emotional intelligence" or "EI". Participants will learn what emotional intelligence is, why it is important in human relationships and personal well-being, as well as learn how to assess their level of "EI" and expand upon it.

Friday, September 14: Inclusion: Moving From Implicit Bias to Acceptance presented by Renee Hardman, Principal Owner of Hardman Consulting and newly elected City Councilwomen of West Des Moines (only second woman and first African American women to hold this seat)

  • Learn what Implicit Bias is and how it manifests itself into decisions we make and in our relationships with others. Participants will have the opportunity to examine how their Implicit Biases toward others create "walls and fences" resulting in the inability to move to full acceptance of people different from themselves. The presentation will focus on the need to challenge our biases and the filters by which we see the world with the goal of embracing others without judgment.

Friday, December 7: Developing Your Leadership Influence presented by Libby Ehrig, Facilitator, ATW Training Solutions

  • Are the people you lead committed to their work, their teams, and organizational results? Most employees are merely compliant—they come to work, do the minimum, and leave. In this session, we’ll look at what takes to become a more influential leader, no matter your role. We’ll also introduce you to The Five Levels of Leadership, a specific model to lead people to higher levels of commitment. You’ll leave this session knowing what you can do to lead with integrity, earn the respect of those around you, and ultimately, achieve results.
